When companies need funds for expansion, they choose to offer their shares to the public and accumulate the fund. An IPO is a good way to fund a company's expansion & provide a long term capital . India’s market is very vibrant in case of IPOs. Let me take you through some of the most important IPO terms.

  • Exchange: In every IPO exchange is mentioned where shares will be listed. Mainboard IPO's are listed on NSE & BSE while SME IPOs are listed on NSE EMERGE platform or BSE SME platform.

  • IPO Open Date / Issue Close Date: The opening and closing date of the IPO bidding process. You are allowed to apply during this time only.

  • Lot Size: The minimum number of shares an investor can apply for in an IPO. If lot size is '200' means you need to bid for at least 200 shares.

  • Issue Price:The price per equity share. There are 2 types of IPO pricing - one is Book Building and the other one is Fixed Price Issue. Book Building issue has a price range, say Rs 80-100 and you need to bid within this price range. Fixed price issues have a specific price to bid.

  • Issue Size: The total monetary value of the IPO. It is arrived at by multiplying the number of shares offered by the company with the issue price per share.
